At the start of lockdown, our founder Seb had a lot of work stuff; a big monitor, notepads and files, keyboard and mouse, and not much space in his flat. Out of this challenge came our unique Bou FOLD Maxi. Here are three reasons it’s our best-selling folding desk:
A full-size, yet compact homework station.
Our original Bou FOLD Maxi desk is designed to be generous yet ergonomic. When it’s closed, the FOLD Maxi only protrudes from the wall by about as much as a shoebox, or A3 sheet of paper.
When it’s open, it’s a very generously-sized homeworking desk – as large as an office workstation. We’ve heard from our customers that shutting it at the end of the day is surprisingly deeply gratifying. Not just the lovely soft ‘thud’ as the magnets make contact when the desk closes, but the undeniable satisfaction of not being able to see anything to do with work.

With some homeworking desks, you have to compromise on size. The Bou FOLD Maxi could accommodate up to a 34” widescreen monitor or twin 27” monitors. With the Maxi, you get all the comfort of a full-sized desk, but can reclaim your space when your work is done for the day.
2. Unique, engineered wood.
There’s something very special about having engineered wood to look at. It brings nature indoors, complements your houseplants and softens the appearance of your room.
Because we use natural-faced engineered woods, each desk is completely unique. With our Bou FOLD Maxi, the shaped handles are ergonomically formed to make the action of opening and closing the desk a real pleasure. Routed out of solid hardwood, you can see all sorts of grain and cross-grain patterns in just a single piece of timber.
3. Discs and Catches that Distinguish.
Every Bou FOLD Maxi has our maker’s mark, an engraved brass or steel (depending on colouR scheme) disc in a discrete location. It’s only 20mm in diameter, but it’s there to show the time and effort it takes to build each Bou desk, and a mark that we’re proud of our work. We love small details that show the quality of slow furniture.
Our smooth magnetic catches have a dual function. They stop the folding desktop from dropping on its own and give tactile feedback when the desktop is opened or closed.
